AFGA Code of Conduct and Ethics for Field Guides and Trackers

  • An AFGA Member:

  • Shall be suitably dressed and presentable at all times.

  • Shall display no discrimination on any basis, eg: colour, gender, sexual preference, ethnicity, nationality, physical challenge, age or religious persuasion.

  • Shall at all times provide quality service and support to all tourists.

  • Shall be impartial, unbiased and positive and represent their country, region and continent objectively.

  • Shall be punctual, reliable, honest, conscientious and tactful at all times.

  • Shall treat the environment, all people and cultures with respect.

  • Shall never solicit to clients for gratuities.

  • Shall wear the appropriate tourist guide badge and carry his/her registration card at all times.

  • Shall adhere to the National Qualification and Registration requirements for Field Guides and Trackers in their country of operation.

  • Shall at no time be under the influence of alcohol or any narcotic substance, legal or illegal while on duty and shall refrain from administering any medication to a client without proper medical consultation.

  • Shall not operate outside of his/ her level of qualification as a guide or tracker.shall not endanger his / her guests or the environment in any way.

  • Shall be knowledgeable and shall assist tourists and not provide them with misleading information.

  • Shall, in the event of not being familiar with, or unable to provide information to tourists, consult with the appropriate reference for assistance.

  • Shall report any incident of injury or death to the closest tourist authority and police station as well as to AFGA.

  • Shall deal with conflict in a sensitive and responsible manner.

  • Shall be a responsible driver / skipper / pilot / operator when operating any mode of transport as a guide.

  • Shall carry out the programme / itinerary of a tour to the best of his / her abilities and be loyal to the company / organisation that he / she is representing
